He's having a baby
Thomas Beatie is a transgendered pregnant man. Why he chose to keep his reproductive system in tact:
"Sterilization is not a requirement for sex reassignment, so I decided to have chest reconstruction and testosterone therapy but kept my reproductive rights. Wanting to have a biological child is neither a male nor female desire, but a human desire...."
He later married his wife, Nancy, and when they decided to have a child, they were stricken by infertility: Nancy (who has two grown daughters from a previous marriage) had severe endometriosis and was unable to conceive. It was an easy decision for Thomas to make an attempt at pregnancy.
His road was not an easy one; he had to stop hormone therapy to re-regulate his system. There were many clinical IUI attempts. There was an ectopic twin pregnancy that resulted in emergency surgery and the loss of one of his tubes. Finally, he was able to conceive via home inseminations; he his six months pregnant with a baby girl.
DVR'd episode of Oprah watched, I have this to say about Thomas the pregnant transgdendered man:
More power to you and your wife. Who am I to criticize how someone chooses to live their lives and build their families? I love it, and I'm glad they had the balls to step up and go public with it. Thomas said, "Love builds a family."
You're damned right.
